Speeches

By Joseph.

Promises, Promises, Promises
- that's all we're getting at the moment. Tax cuts, shorter hospital waiting lists, less student debt. - Step right up .. it's a circus out there! That's right ... it's election year.

Politicians - they need your vote and they're out to impress you. They do this in three main ways.

Method 1.
"We've got the best policies."
Here we get all the election promises, but do they keep them? Not many, if any.

Method 2.
"The others are the pits!"
Over the last few weeks, how many times have you heard the politicians criticising each other over every issue under the sun?

Method 3. What's happened in the past?
Parties are scoring over each other by saying what happened the last time their opposition was in government.

Now we have the T.V campaigning.
We've had little orange men leaping in and out of letterboxes. We have party political broadcasts; politicians racing around the country, cutting ribbons, helping to do up somebody's garden and kissing babies to make sure that they look good.

And because the public are so thick, they have to give us repeated in-depth explanations of how to put ticks in boxes.

So how would you vote?
Would it be Brash's Boys? Or perhaps Clark's Cluster?
Maybe Winston's Whiners? . ..or Jim's Jokers?
Nanda's Nutters or even Tariana's Toa? McGillicuddy's Madmen?
Hmmmmmm. .

Yes, it's a circus out there and it's going to continue for the next 29 days. Decisions, decisions, decisions. So, if you were 18, how would you vote?

Observatory Recount

On Thursday the 19th of March 2005 students from Faith Academy and their families went to the Ward Observatory to see Jupiter, Saturn and the Moon because we are studying space.

Through the big telescope Jupiter looked white with two pale stripes across it. We could see four of its moons, Ganymede, Io, Callisto and Europa. From outside, Jupiter looked like a bright star near the moon.

The moon was about three-quarters full and was shining brightly. Through a telescope the moon was absolutely huge and you could see the craters really clearly. It seemed to be covered in craters. We didn't see any cheese

It took a while for one of the astronomers to set up a telescope to point at Saturn. While we were waiting, he talked to us quite a bit about the telescope and light pollution at the observatory and about Saturn. Through the telescope Saturn looked very yellow. It had two bright rings, which were the same colour. It was really cool to be able to see it.

God gave us a really calm, clear, mild evening to visit the observatory. Everyone, including little children and the parents, were very patient, and we all enjoyed ourselves.

Y.1 Concert

We have a lot of people come to our school, but these people were a "Blast!"

Y.1 2005 is a group made up of seven people, this year there were three girls and four boys. They were Vanessa, Penelope, Lorelle, Josh (afro man), Matt, Ben and Gareth. My favorite was Matt, he's cool. Anyway...... Y.1 is a group that travels around New Zealand and sings songs. They sing songs made up by other artists like, Solider, by Eminem and others.

They went to five different schools, mostly Intermediate schools, but that's only in Wanganui, they went to a lot more other schools in New Zealand.

After they've performed at all the schools in one city that they are supposed to perform at, they do one more performance somewhere else, where all the form 1's and 2's are allowed to go to, and it only costs $5.00. What they do there is perform songs and play games with the crowd, like guessing the song, and our mate won that game, she won a C.D

"I look forward to seeing Y.1 2006!"
